Dogs can eat watermelon!
People love having watermelon during a summer beach day or barbeque. Your four legged friend may look up at your longingly hoping for a piece, and you may be asking yourself if it’s safe for you to share with them. Well the answer is yes. Watermelons are full of water, which can help prevent summer dehydration for you and your dog! Watermelons are also full of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, potassium and magnesium. As an added bonus though they taste like a treat, they are low in calories! Just be sure your dog doesn’t eat the rind and seeds.
As with anything new, give watermelon in limited amounts at first to be sure your dog does not have a negative reaction to it or get an upset stomach. Give amounts according to your individual dog. A small dog may only need a small piece, while a large dog may enjoy multiple large pieces. Either way the sweet juicy flavor is a summer hit for both you and your dog!
